Today was the first time I was going to be on a plane in well over a year.
If you know me at all you know I was a very frequent flyer and an avid traveler so getting back in to the friendly skies was very appealing to me.
I hat a 7am flight which meant I needed to be up at 4.
I packed meticulously and set not one but two alarms to make sure I would be on time.
I plugged in all my devices t be sure they were charged for use on my trip.
I got to bed early and went right to sleep.
I was very pleased with myself for planning well and getting to bed at a reasonable hour so I would not be exhausted when during the trip.
So imagine my surprise when mob daughter gently woke mw up and said…
Mom….you said we need to leave at 5…didn’t you?
I said YES…what time is it?
She said…
It’s 5.
I literally jumped out of bed and said
OH SH&T!!!!!
Apparently the cord I used to charge the phone was bad and my TWO alarms never happened due not a dead phone.
And not to share too much information but as a middle aged woman I have not slept 7 hours straight in several years but apparently this night is the one night I did and therefore did not check my phone for the time.
If I had I would have known that my phone was dead at 1 or 2 am thus saving the day.
Son there I was….5 am…
I should have been out the door and I had to decide in a blink if I should try to make it or not.
Since I was all packed and my clothes were laid out decided to GO FOR IT and a washed my face…brushed my teeth and threw on clothes in approximately 6 minutes.
My ANGEL of a daughter loaded my bags in the car and off we went…
Now the funny thing is that I had just plugged in one of those things from my car insurance company that measures your driving as I am trying to get a discount as barely drive drive due to the pandemic.
So I am wanting to speed on the early morning empty roads but cognizant that I am being tracked by “big brother”
So I drive the speed limit and PRAY for no construction.
I made it to the airport and was relived to see no people in line.
There was pretty much no one there…
I checked my bag…
Even had time to get a coffee before to boarding my plane.
I sat in my seat and thought…
This is so familiar and so foreign at the same time.
Everyone is so afraid.
But I’m not anymore.
Because behind all the masks are PEOPLE.
HUMANS.
Humans who just want to connect with other humans.
I miss people.
I miss YOU.
And while I am on my trip I hope to see some awesome people and if I am lucky this will be the first trio of many more in 2021.
Im tired, I’m stinky, I’m off kilter and I am ever SO happy to be on a plane.
I even got an upgrade to first class on the second leg!
Good sign…
No?
Whether you are traveling or not in the near future…
Whether you are wearing a mask or not.
Reach out and touch someone this week.
EVERYONE is craving connection.
Everyone is craving NORMALCY.
And that my friend lies in OUR hands.
Signing off from the great blue skies….
